The UEC met with EU Commissioner Glenn Micallef to discuss regulatory and financial challenges in European football
The Union of European Clubs (UEC) was pleased to meet in Brussels with Glenn Micallef, the EU Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport. This important exchange provided a valuable opportunity to share our perspective on the current challenges facing European football, particularly regarding regulatory frameworks and financial sustainability.
As the voice of clubs from across Europe, the UEC is committed to ensuring a more balanced and inclusive football ecosystem, one in which all clubs, regardless of size, can compete on a level playing field and thrive based on merit. Our conversation with Commissioner Micallef covered a range of pressing topics, including the need for effective financial regulation, fair distribution of resources, and safeguards to protect the integrity of domestic competitions.
We thank Commissioner Micallef and his team for their openness and engagement. The UEC looks forward to continuing this constructive dialogue with EU institutions to support a football model that reflects the European values of solidarity, fairness, and diversity.
